Richard gets a surprise & a new bike.
(7-12-09)

While surfing eBay UK Richard Asprey placed a token bid on a 1952 Norton ES2.  To his surprise a week later Richard received an email from eBay congratulating him on his winning bid.  The bike is being shipped by air and should be here shortly at no small expense.  Nice bike Richard.  You'll look marvelous riding it during the Lake O' the Pines Rolling Concours.

Now Steve Ledbetter has someone to ride with once Steve figures out how this ES2 goes back together.

Clay has gone over to the dark side with his latest purchase of Dawson Baker's (Dean's dad) 1966 Harley-Davidson FL.  Clay is betting that it will improve his success picking up chicks but any success would be an improvement.

Should the "Stallion" stay or be removed?  Clay has asked for your opinion.  Send you thoughts to ntnoa@ntnoa.org.

Opinions:
1)     "Thumbs Down on Clay’s Gaudy Looking ‘Mustang.' It’s gotta GO!!" - Paul Valentine
2)     "I would remove it. Just my own personal taste. Something that is "decorative" and functions is one thing, but the horse is definitely non-functional." - Michael Fairchild
3)     "It's just got to stay on! It finishes the bike perfectly and will be a great conversation piece for picking up hot chicks! Monica says "A Stallion in front and one behind!"" - Chris Parry
4)     "The horse should not be there. If it has to be functional and decorative Clay should mount the trophy he is hiding in his living room. Insiders know what I am talking about." - Konrad Schilder
5)     "I thought only Ferrari’s had prancing horses! LOL!. Whose bike is it anyway; you like it you keep it!" - Ron Ernst
6)     "This is of course the ultra-rare Harley "Prancing Stallion" model of which there has only been rumor up to now. This along with the air horns makes it one of the most collectible Harley's in existence. It must stay!" - Dennis Tackett
7)     "Everyone is overlooking the fact that there are two holes drilled in that fender. That horse isn't going anywhere. And Clay, that bike really fits you. Your going to love it. I think you need to start increasing your tattoo to tooth ratio." - Bill Keating
8)     "It is unusual to find something that large that makes such a nice mascot. Also quite unbelievable to see something that has exactly the same patina as much of the rest of the bike. I think you should keep the single seat on the bike, otherwise you will get fed up with all the girls jumping on the back. This will only serve to reduce fuel consumption." - Richard Asprey
9)     "One more horse-power is always welcome!" - John Scott
10)   "Keep the horse, find a Ferrari to put underneath it. Lose the Harley." - Kathleen T. Flanigan
11)   "De gustibus non est disputandum. Nuff said?" - David Lyles
Bad news. Sunday, 30 August, 2009, after obvious distain by all the patrons at Willhoites in Grapevine the chrome Stallion spontaneously ejected from the Harley's front fender to the garage floor. As Clay recalls, "It was quite gruesome. I had to cover up the holes with a Peckerhead sticker."

Steve's new but very old Norton - a 1949 ES2

It last ran in 1992 before being stored in a garage in Hawaii. It was rebuilt in the 80's in the Philippines by a Jitney-Jeep shop, and was a Hacienda bike in Jakarta.

It was owned by American military Father then Son. The son recently retired from the military and shipped it to Arlington, Texas. That’s all the known history at this time.

It's missing the speedometer, Amal carb, and exhaust is not original. The rest seems to be all there.

If any members can help with parts suppliers for Norton ES2's please let me know.

The Story Behind Berwyn Henderson's new 2008 Kawasaki Versys

Anyone recognize the motorcycle pictured below?  This bike was purchased new by Capt. Commando at RPM Cycle.  A couple of years later Berwyn Henderson acquired it and brought it to this years AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid-Ohio.  Chuck Lepper, the gentleman pictured below walked by, asked who owned it and refused to leave without it.  He made Berwyn an offer nobody in their right mind could refuse.  This picture was taken immediately following the exchange of cash for bike.

Coming home from Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid-Ohio Berwyn negotiated a deal for this brand new 2008 Kawasaki Versys before he even got home.  This is Berwyn at home on his Versys right after he picked it up on Tuesday.  It is the first if not one of the first Versys in the Metroplex.  Maybe he'll ride it to the meeting on Sunday for all of us to look at.
