The President's Message
May, 2010

The NTNOA had a VERY successful All British & European Car Day on Sunday 2 May. The weather remained fine and there was an excellent turnout of vehicles, which meant big crowds. This helped us have a record day for raffle bike ticket sales, and we took just short of $1,000! A lot of the credit for that goes to Dave Lyles who spent many hours last week polishing and detailing the bike to within an inch of its life; and to Richard Asprey who had the side covers detailed by Alton Gillespie and the starter re-worked by Big D Cycle. If anyone wavered on buying tickets, we simply pressed the starter button and the bike would roar into life first time, every time – a great deal clincher.

Our Volunteer of the Month is Bruce Jones, who not only trailered all the gear to and from the show, but also sold tickets all day; and he is obviously an adept in the fine art of the soft (and hard) sell. Thank you Bruce!!

Along with the success of the raffle bike, we would like to thank the following club members who showed their bikes (please advise if we missed anyone):

George Tuttle – Electric Start Commando
Bob Cox – Electric Start Commando
Phil Dansby – High-pipe Commando
Dennis Tackett – 77 Bonneville
Clay Walley – 76 Bonneville
Chris Parry – 79 Bonneville
Dave Lyles – 67 Bonneville
Richard Asprey – Norton ES2
Sean Fleskes – Triumph TR6
Bev Bowen – Vincent Comet

To cap a great day - Richard’s Norton ES2 and Bev’s Vincent Comet took first and second places respectively in the Motorcycle Class! Two wonderful bikes that are regularly ridden by their owners

Next – on Sunday, 23 May, we plan on taking the raffle bike to the Spring 2010 British Car and Motorcycle Show at the British Emporium in Grapevine. We need your help - we need volunteers to help with logistics and to sell tickets so please advise if you can participate. Doubtless there will be a post-show rendezvous at a suitable venue for beverages. If you wish to show your bike – then you can register at http://www.british-emporium.com/index.php?tag=carshow

Finally, if anyone has an idea for other events where we could sell raffle tickets for the Commando, we’d like to hear suggestions.
Chris Parry
