Land O’ the Pines Rallye Recap
by Paul Valentine

Thursday and Friday were calm as usual as attendees arrived at the park. Diamond Don had the grounds well prepared for the arrival of the guests as usual. The weather was very nice, with nice clear blue skies and big puffy clouds. Except that it was quite warm for the season. The nights were warm and humid. So much so that the bond fires blazed with virtually no one sitting near them.

Friday saw a steady stream of motorcycles coming and going as usual. New arrivals also kept the check-in booth a busy place. Saturday started out the same, but many more folks had arrived during the night, and morning saw the bike show ground steadily filling with outstanding motorcycles. Soon the showground was a very busy place.

After the show ended, the games began, and so did the fun. There was lots of participation in the games, and many liberties taken in order to win. The minibike “parades” were next and were organized and run by Diamond Don.

The awards ceremony started at 5:30 and was over around 7:00. The raffle bike was won by Shanon Tackett, the wife of our Rallye Chairman, Dennis Tackett. Dennis about went into hysterics as he read the name on the winning ticket. Diamond Don gave us a short fireworks show later in the evening.

Sunday was another nice but unseasonably warm morning, but that didn’t slow down the Vintage Riders from making their run.

It looked like a record turnout to me and another great and highly successful Rallye for the club.

Click here for my photos. I’m still adding to the album so it will be a few more days before it’s finished.

This event is open to all street legal motorcycles at least 30-years old.

A certification stop will be required half way through the ride. A chase vehicle will be available to pick up any non-finishers. Upon return, eligible bikes will be parked in an impound area for judging. No wiping or polishing will be allowed in the impound area. We want to see rare bikes in riding condition, so bugs and dirt from the ride are considered a plus!

The Raffle Bike was a 1974 Norton 850 Commando won by Shanon Tackett.
